California man killed in accident caused by a drunk driver

Drunk driving accidents have the unfortunate ability to cause great upset among people close to those involved. When news of an accident caused by a drunk driver is released, those closest to the victims of such accidents may feel overwhelmed by the sudden loss of their loved ones. Family members may wish to seek justice for their loss and consider filing a wrongful death claim.

It was recently reported that a similar situation took place in California. Reports indicated that some individuals had been at a club, and when the time came to leave, one man got into a car being driven by a 22-year-old woman. The woman had apparently been drinking, and her vehicle crashed into a tractor trailer that was merging onto the highway.

The passenger in the car suffered fatal injuries, and the driver suffered minor injuries. Reports stated that the driver was taken into custody on charges of driving while intoxicated and causing a fatal accident. She was later released on bail. The victim was reported as being a marine who had been attending Sacramento State University before his death.

The family of the victim has expressed grief over the sudden loss of their loved one. Because this was considered an accident caused by a drunk driver, the family may wish to follow the criminal proceedings relating to the charges leveled against the driver considered at fault. If she is convicted, that information may be used as evidence should the family wish to file a wrongful death claim in order to seek compensation for their loss and other damages permissible under California law.
