Tragic car accident takes lives of 2 mothers, 4 children

Families travel together on California's interstates every day. Perhaps they are going to an amusement park, taking a trip to the beach, visiting relatives or going camping. No one expects, however, to lose their lives in the process.

A devastating car accident in Northern Los Angeles County took the lives of two mothers and four children. The victim's vehicle was parked in the right hand lane on Interstate 5 after a minor accident. After that, a tractor-trailer traveling at a speed of 55 mph struck the back of the minivan, hurtling it down a hill, where it caught fire.

The two fathers, who were sitting in the front seats of the minivan and were able to escape, tried desperately to save their loved ones, suffering burns in the process. One passenger side door was stuck. They were able to open the other passenger door, but by that time the fire had overtaken the minivan. The fire was so severe that it was impossible to put it out with a fire extinguisher or attempt any other types of life-saving efforts.

The fathers were age 34 and 45, respectively, but the ages of the deceased individuals have not yet been released. Police are investigating the incident but believe that the impact of the collision could have led to at least some of the deaths prior to the vehicle catching fire. The fathers were taken to the hospital, where their condition is being described as serious.

This tragic accident serves as a reminder that it only takes a split second for a fatal accident to occur. If it is determined that the accident was caused due to the negligence of another, it may be worthwhile to determine if you have a legal cause of action in order to pursue compensation for the damages you suffered.
