Drunk drivers can turn holiday celebrations into tragedies

The holidays are a time of celebration. Starting with Thanksgiving and lasting all the way to ringing in the New Year, there will be countless parties, family get-togethers and other festive events. While it is not unusual to have a drink or two at one of these celebrations, there are unfortunately some in California who will take it too far and will get behind the wheel of a car after having too much to drink. Drunk driving is a serious issue, especially at this time of the year.

When a person drives while drunk, they place not only their lives but the lives of everyone else on the road at risk. It is not only irresponsible and illegal, but it is negligent to drive with a blood-alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Unfortunately, sometimes drunk drivers cause collisions involving other innocent drivers. When this happens, the victims or their family may wonder if they can hold the drunk driver responsible for his or her actions.

While every case is different, in some cases it may be possible to pursue a lawsuit against the drunk driver. Depending on the circumstances, those hit by a drunk driver may seek compensation for the medical expenses they incurred due to the crash, along with lost wages while they were unable to work, pain and suffering and other damages.

The legal team at the Law Offices of Steven M. Hanna, P.C., understand that drunk driving crashes are entirely preventable. After all, the person could have ridden with a designated driver, could have called for a taxi cab or simply could have remained where they were until they were sober. And of course, the most reliable way to avoid causing a drunk driving crash is not to become intoxicated in the first place. The attorneys at the Law Offices of Steven M. Hanna, P.C., have over 50 years of experience in the courtroom representing personal injury victims.
