California woman dies in suspected drunk driving crash

The loss of a loved one is never easy, especially when that loss is sudden and unexpected. A California woman passed away recently after her vehicle was hit by a wrong-way driver. Now that driver is being accused of driving under the influence.

The 38-year-old woman, who was a mother and a nurse, had worked at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest for six years. She was greatly loved by her family and community. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when the woman, who was driving westbound, was struck head-on by a minivan at approximately 11:45 p.m. She died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the minivan suffered serious injuries and was sent to the hospital, her condition was not immediately known.

The woman is suspected of drunk driving, and her initial court hearing may take place at the hospital.

There are many ways a driver can act negligently while behind the wheel, and drunk driving is one of the most serious, perhaps because the consequences of a drunk driving accident can be so severe. Auto accidents that are cause by drunk driver are especially tragic, because they so easily could have been prevented. Drivers should take care not to drink too much. If they have drunk too much to safely drive, they should take a taxi home, ride with a designated driver or stay where they are until they are sober enough to drive safely.

The families of victims of fatal drunk driving accidents may feel helpless and they may feel like they have no options. However, they may have the option of pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit against the drunk driver. While no amount of money can bring a loved one back, it can at least help families cope financially during a time of grief.
