Pair hit by a drunk driver in overnight crash taken to hospital

It is unfortunate that there are motorists who are reckless, don't pay strict attention to the road, are negligent or engage in behaviors that place themselves and others in danger. These drivers are everywhere and one of the most dangerous behaviors in which they partake is drinking and driving. An accident caused by a drunk driver can lead to serious injuries and fatalities. Those who are involved in this type of auto accident need to understand their possible rights to be compensated.

According to a recent report, a two-vehicle collision led to one driver being hospitalized, her passenger taken for treatment and the other driver being arrested for driving drunk. The accident happened at around 3:30 a.m. as a black Chrysler 200 was heading south on the road and crashed into a Ford Ranger heading east. After the impact, the Chrysler hit a power pole and knocked it over. The female driver of the Ford Ranger, 18, was thrown from her vehicle. She was taken to the hospital and was said to be in critical condition with significant injuries. Her male passenger was also hurt. His injuries were reported to be minor. The 27-year-old driver of the Chrysler was placed under arrest and faces felony charges for drunk driving.

A vast number of accidents in California and across the U.S. are caused by drunk drivers. The victims in these crashes can be badly hurt, needing to stay in the hospital and receive extensive medical treatment. They may require surgeries, rehabilitation and more. There is the possibility that the person will never return to normal and will need constant care. Missed time at work and the inability to contribute to the family are also issues that almost inevitably arise. While insurance companies might make an offer to compensate these victims, it is often woefully inadequate to cover all they have lost. Knowing the issues that will come up is imperative before accepting a settlement.

In this case, a woman and a passenger were injured when their vehicle was hit by a drunk driver. Since both were hospitalized with the woman seriously injured, they need to know their rights. Arrest reports, blood-alcohol content levels and the exact circumstances of the crash are keys to filing a case. Discussing the matter with a legal professional with experience in helping those who have been hit by a drunk driver is the foundation to litigation and is usually the first call that should be made.
