The impact of motorcycle accidents in America

The impact of any given motorcycle accident can be felt by multiple parties. The injured motorcyclist may have serious injuries that will need weeks or even months of medical attention. That injured person's family will likely bear a significant financial impact as a result. And then, the other driver who caused the accident will face the prospect of a personal injury lawsuit.

But, the overall impact of motorcycle accidents in America is felt by many, in economic terms. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the economic impact of motorcycle accidents in this country is about $12 billion annually.

The rate of motorcycle accidents in America, like car accidents, is on the rise. According to the CDC, from 2000 to 2010 the rate of motorcycle accidents in America grew by a whopping 55 percent. That will only mean an even greater economic impact on the national economy moving forward.

While there are many different public campaigns to increase awareness among drivers that motorcyclists are sharing the road too, it appears that more work needs to be done to make the roads safe for those who choose to ride motorcycles. But, when a negligent driver does cause a motorcycle accident, the injured rider and any passengers may be able to recover compensation through personal injury lawsuits. That compensation will be sorely needed once the medical bills start to arrive. Most motorcyclists don't walk away from a collision with another vehicle without serious injuries, and treatment for those injuries can cost a motorcyclist thousands of dollars.
