Factors that may contribute to a pedestrian-automobile collision

Accidents between pedestrians and vehicles are an all too common occurrence in Southern California. These sometimes fatal incidents often happen when vehicle drivers allow themselves to be distracted from the important task of safely and responsibly operating their motor vehicles. Whether through in vehicle distractions or through a lack of regard for traffic laws, drivers create dangerous problems for the men, women and children who must walk on and near Fullerton roads.

Distracted driving has become a big problem since smart phones have found their way in the hands of practically every person who is capable of driving. Drivers sometimes spend more time focused on their handheld devices than they do no the roads quickly passing before them; when drivers look away from the streets they are on they can easily miss a pedestrian crossing the road in front of them.

Drivers who ignore traffic laws such as those related to speeding and right of way may also cause collisions with pedestrians. Individuals who drive too fast for the conditions present around them may not have sufficient time to stop before colliding with a person in the street, and driver who fail to recognize pedestrians' right of way in crosswalks may cause injuries to individuals who were properly crossing under the law.

One of the best ways for drivers to avoid crashes with pedestrians is for them to consistently follow the rules of the road. This can include driving without distractions, following traffic laws and operating as a reasonable driver would in their situation. Pedestrians who harmed by drivers, however, are reminded that they have rights to pursue their losses through civil lawsuits based on personal injury claims.
